How I got here…

Okay, this was a big deal for me. I tried to talk myself out of this dream for 3 years, but it wouldn’t leave my heart. You know how it is. Moms are always putting themselves last. Too many other priorities. But I couldn’t let the dream of my own vintage-inspired retreat go. So much that I began collecting items for the vision in my head long before I knew I could actually build it. Sometimes you need to believe.

It started with a she-shed book I ordered to enjoy during a family camping trip (while my adventurous boys go sweat it out in the woods on mountain bikes). I got so excited at the beautiful surroundings and possibilities that the dream immediately started to unfold. The first item I bought for the sole purpose of the future shed was an authentic fireplace surround from a Wisconsin farmhouse. Centered on the back wall, it invites everyone in with warmth and nostalgia.

I refinished most items found on Marketplace, thrifted vintage treasures at local shops, and added to my collection over 3 years of family camping weekends during Covid. Some pieces like the daybed and pillows are new to fit my vision. The last piece of the puzzle was the primitive cabinet in the corner holding all my tableware and vintage china. It feels like it was meant to be here. But I secretly think the dusty blue window shutters will always be one of my favorite finds.

Now I want to share this space with you…

What good is it for me to putter around in here by myself? My boys don’t totally “get” it, so I need to share this with others who will appreciate the character, thought, and stories here.
